The excerpt shown here (in English) was not a company sponsored undertaking but rather one that was part of a much larger film (55 mins) made independently (and touchingly unscripted by the individuals featured) by a French company in 2010 – the film encompasses the whole of the eight day voyage of the ‘Lord of the Glens’ from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness.
This excerpt focuses simply on the transit of the Caledonian Canal from Corpach on the Atlantic to Loch Ness. Captain Athol also featured herein – (who dearly loved the ship and waterway) sadly died shortly afterwards.
The film in French was entitled ‘Ecosse - croisiere dans les Highlands’ produced and directed by Claire and Alain Dayan under the auspices of their own company ‘Night & Day’. The beautiful Highland scenes, haunting music and softly spoken narrative combine here, in our opinion to create the finest film ever made of the Caledonian Canal. We thank Claire and Alain for graciously allowing us to reveal this short excerpt from this most excellent of films.
